MODEL TOWN at WIMBORNE MINSTER

Built well over 50 years ago, the magnificent 1/10th scale models continue to surprise and amaze visitors from all over the world with their superb quality and realism.

Re-creating the historic market town of Wimborne Minster exactly as it was during the 1950s, you can get really close up and even touch the buildings, checking out every minute detail of over 100 shop window displays. Peer into the Butchers, the Ironmongers, the Bakery and the Fishmongers, not forgetting the stunning interior of the Minster Church. As you begin to explore in more detail, your mind will turn to wondering just how the group of skilled and dedicated model makers achieved such amazing ‘life like’ results – working as they did over five decades ago in a rural England still recovering from the war years.

The fun family worksheets suitable for all age groups which are provided free of charge, lead you through the many Streets and Lanes including the colourful prize-winning gardens, searching for those elusive clues. Eventually you approach Wendy Street, a designated safe play area for younger visitors. The four Wendy Houses provide hours of amusement while the grown ups sample the fresh, mouthwatering home made fayre available from the
Tea Rooms which overlook the gardens.

With the appetite now satisfied, try your luck on our new Putting Lawn. Great Fun! While you are excitedly adding up the scores on the official Scorecard provided, the children have found the next attraction – the most fantastic working Model Railway layout which also includes working model Trams.

This fascinating layout is uniquely interactive, enabling the visitor to set the trains and trams in motion, and yes, before you ask, Thomas and his friends are all here! They can also be found in our super Gift Shop which is packed to the rafters with a fine selection of gifts.
